Cross country skiing in Austria
Nordic winter sports in a snow-sure winter paradise
Welcome to Seefeld – the most beautiful high plateau in the Alps. For all those who love cross-country skiing, holiday dreams come true here for beginners, advanced skiers and professionals. Because on around 245 kilometres of perfectly groomed cross-country trails and in front of a unique mountain backdrop, both tracks for friends of the classic style and skating tracks are offered.
Cross-country skiing makes history
Seefeld looks back on a long and successful Nordic history: it has been the venue for the Nordic Combined for 16 years, Austria’s largest popular cross-country skiing event has been held here for a staggering 52 years, the Nordic FIS Ski World Championships were held here in 1985 and 2019, and two Winter Olympics attracted visitors from all over the world to Seefeld in 1964 and 1976. In 2012, Seefeld hosted the Winter Youth Olympic Games. For almost 10 years now, the Nordic Combined Triple has been providing action in Seefeld, where the combination of ski jumping and cross-country skiing is once again contested for as many of the coveted FIS points as possible. In short: the Seefeld ski circus regularly transforms the region into one big sports party mile and we are considered the Nordic Mecca by top athletes and amateur athletes alike.
Cross-country skiing on perfectly groomed trails
The cross-country skiing trails in and around Seefeld cover 245 kilometres. For friends of the classic style, 154 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails await. Freestylers can enjoy skating trails with a total of 112 kilometres. The coveted cross-country skiing area in Tyrol lies on a high plateau between 1,180 and 1,550 metres above sea level and is considered one of the most snow-sure areas in Austria.
Yesterday’s snow? But of course!
In addition, the concept of snowfarming makes it possible to provide cross-country skiing trails for cross-country skiing holidays and professional athletes as early as the beginning of November. Snowfarming is considered an environmentally friendly alternative to artificial snow and has been practised in Scandinavia for more than 20 years. The perfect location, nestled between the Wetterstein Mountains and the Karwendel, also ensures that the Seefeld region is considered a designated “snow hole” by insiders.
Learn from the best when cross-country skiing
Gliding over sparkling snow like a pro – who wouldn’t want that! Seefeld in Tyrol is considered a training and competition centre for top athletes. Professional athletes from all over the world come here to train. Even Japanese teams make the journey for an extra training session and the Finns prefer to train here rather than at home. No wonder, because in addition to the perfectly prepared cross-country trails, they also find the best ski jumps in Seefeld.
No reason, however, for “absolute beginners” to rethink their cross-country skiing holiday. Eight cross-country ski schools in the region alone ensure that you too will be making elegant tracks in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps in no time at all.
Barrier-free cross-country skiing in Seefeld
On the cross-country track with a wheelchair? No problem, because the Seefeld region meets all the criteria for this sporting pleasure. Sport wheelchair cross-country sled
If you do not have a suitable sledge: You can borrow one from Alois Paschberger. It will be delivered directly to your hotel. By the way, the cross-country trails are regularly checked by nine-time Paralympics World Champion Oliver Anthofer. Because more and more guests are discovering barrier-free cross-country skiing for themselves, new disabled parking spaces are constantly being added next to the trails.
Night cross-country skiing in Seefeld
A special highlight is the three-kilometre-long night cross-country trail between Seefeld and Mösern. By floodlight you run through the romantic snow-covered night landscape. The night trail at the Alpenbad Leutasch offers a crisp spurt before dinner. With a distance of 400 metres, you will reach the finish much faster here. The night trails are illuminated daily from 17:00 to 20:00. Enjoy the snow sparkling in the light and the clear air with the moon above you. Of course, it is most beautiful when you are skiing towards the full moon or the new moon.
Cross-country skiing with your dog
Even your four-legged friend can join in on the cross-country skiing. There is a special dog trail for your best friend with a total length of 1.9 kilometres.
